I HAVE always been against Trident and other nuclear weapons as I do not believe we should be prepared to cause such destruction and threaten to kill millions of innocent civilians as at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Now, I have an additional reason to be against nuclear weapons. The National Security Risk assessment lists the main risks to be cyber attack, public health, natural hazards (eg climate change) and terrorism.

Nuclear attack is only a tier two risk, ie not very likely.

The government wants to spend more than £100 billion on new nuclear weapons in this time of “austerity”.

This money could be used instead for hospitals, affordable homes to rent, insulating people’s homes to help combat climate change, student grants or other constructive rather than destructive things.

I am unable go on the anti Trident march in London on Saturday, February 27 so have decided to demonstrate in Crediton instead.

I hope other people will join me. Meet me on St Lawrence Green on the 27th at 10.45am if you want to take part.
