AT about 6.15pm on Friday evening, January 6, I was driving my car towards the High Street.

It was dark and raining, visibility was poor. As I neared the Church, I saw a young person on an electric scooter in the road heading in the same direction.

They were barely visible as they had no lights or reflective clothing and were wearing a black padded jacket with what looked like a fur trimmed hood, a small black rucksack, grey jogging trousers and black shoes.

As we passed the cars parked on the left, just past the end of Church Lane, a car approached from the opposite direction, their headlights making the scooter rider vanish from sight completely.

I sounded my horn and the scooter rider's reaction was to continuously weave about across the full width of the west bound side of the road until finally mounting the pavement at the bus stop by Lloyds bank.

It is as well I was driving cautiously because of the weather as it was clearly a very dangerous situation and could have resulted in an accident and serious injury for the rider if a less attentive driver had been behind them whilst an oncoming car obscured their vision.

The scooter rider would be uninsured as it is illegal to use them on public roads or pavements.
