IT was with considerable dismay that I read that Mid Devon District Council (MDDC) has virtually forced the sale of Crediton Town Council building to the highest bidder.
This building should, by rights, belong to the people of Crediton, who use it for many purposes that benefit the community.
I understand that at least nine organisations, as well as the Town Council use it regularly making it a vital centre for the town, in its proper place right opposite the Town Square.
When market towns and local high streets are struggling to survive, is this the right thing to do? To remove a central hub that plays such a vital part in our community?
Is this the right way for our district council to treat a town, under its wing?
Crediton is a town of which MDDC should be proud, as it fights valiantly against the tide of dereliction which afflicts so many small country towns.
Shame on you those district councillors who voted down Crediton’s opportunity to buy its own Town Council offices.
It is a shame that every effort to keep our own building has been blocked by Tiverton, by councillors who should have the best interests of ALL their country towns at heart.
