WE are being asked by many local people “What is happening at Creedy Park?” so we thought we would provide an update as of February 1.
This follows an article published in the "Crediton Courier" of October 22, 2021.
The excavations creating a yard for a "General Purpose Agricultural Building" as being built by the Butterfield’s of Sandford Orchards appears to be now complete and a stone surface is being laid to the yard.
A huge amount of soil has been moved and a massive chunk cut out of the hillside to create a level site.
The structure which has been approved for erection here is 5.9 metres high x 36 metres long x 12 metres deep and will be therefore directly visible from many parts of the Park, including the main drive, the Cricket Club, West Lodge and Kerswell Cottage.
A new gravel drive connecting the Creedy Park drive to the site has also been completed.
People have asked us how this was allowed to happen especially in an "Historic Park", (which is itself a planning constraint as recognised by Mid Devon District Council) with two nearby Grade 2 listed buildings.
FULL planning was granted by the Mid Devon Planning Committee despite a refusal recommendation by Mid Devon planning officers (citing several contraventions of the National Planning Policy Framework), Sandford Parish Council stating that it could not support the application, the failure of the applicant to submit a "Heritage Assessment Statement" and objections from the Devon Gardens Trust and the majority of the residents of Creedy Park.
