CAN someone please explain to me the logic behind the new benches in the Town Square which appeared recently?

I can understand that the businesses need to recover from the lockdown, but I am seeing loads of people sitting on them “all bunched up”.

Right by the benches there are signs everywhere with “Please Maintain Social Distancing”.

Indeed the council has sprayed the pavements with “Maintain Social Distancing” all over the place!

Have I missed something here?

What is the point in going into a lockdown for months, then doing the complete opposite to it with NOT maintaining social distancing the minute it is lifted?
