LIKE many other Crediton residents, I am grateful to Cllr Nick Way for his intervention with Devon County Council, which resulted in the long-delayed repainting of the zebra crossing outside Hayward’s school.
Following on from that success, I have asked Cllr Way if he could look in to the lack of provision for pedestrians at the top of Blagdon where the pavement on the left narrows to an unusable width so that pedestrians, children in pushchairs, older children on scooters and bikes and older people with mobility issues are forced to enter the road and run the gauntlet of the traffic speeding (often) towards them up the hill. Many of these are children on their way to school.
There must be a solution to this problem which will keep pedestrians safe on a usable pavement and I am delighted that Cllr Way has agreed to a site visit (tba) with me to discuss options which could be put to the County Council without delay.
I am sure that there are other residents who will share my concerns about this pavement and I would urge them to contact Cllr Way to ask to take part in the site visit and/or express their concerns and ideas to him directly.
Hopefully, by solving problems like these together we can make Crediton a safer place for children and adults to walk, cycle and scoot in and thereby reduce the number of cars on the roads to the benefit of everyone – perhaps an aspiration that some of us will want to take to the Sustainable Crediton rally tomorrow.
