HAVING got the Crediton Bowling Club season up and running with a couple of weeks of friendly fixtures, the beginning of May heralded the start of the League season for both the men and the ladies.

All fixtures are played with two sets of triples and there are two points available to the winning rink.

The side winning the overall shots then gets an extra two points in the Ladies league but four points in the Men’s league.

Ladies Results:

Crediton Yellow 2 - Seaton Blue 4

Crediton Green 5 - Ottery St Mary Gold 1

Men Results

Crediton Over 60’s A 6 - Uffculme A 2

Crediton Over 60’s B - 8 St Thomas C 0

Crediton Over 60’s C - 8 Chagford 07

Mixed

Exeter District C lost by 11 shots to Topsham B.

Special mention this week should go to Joe Miles and his “C” team which started the season off with such an impressive victory after a very disappointing 2022 season.

There were plenty of celebrations held at Crediton Bowling Club in honour of the King’s Coronation. Maggie Chaplin, Jean Hilton and Shuana Miles organising the afternoon’s bowling arrangements and then the 30 members who attended made their way on to the green.

All were encouraged to wear red, white and blue but not necessarily as co-ordinated as Pam Swan, Joan Martin and Julie Cole!

Unfortunately after only seven ends of bowling the weather decided to make everyone rush for shelter and there then followed a three round quiz that had been organised by Jill Heal, and a shared tea.

Rounds about London, Royal Connections and Red, White and Blue taxed the brains of many with Mary Abbott, Allan Gibb, Dave Carpenter and yours truly being victorious.

Thanks were expressed to everyone who had put time in to making the Clubhouse look so colourful and to all those had helped in any part of the overall organisation.
