GORDON MacDonald, from Bideford, a former RAF Officer and planning advisor for the NHS, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of Lapford Over 60s.

Introduced by Roy Trevaskis, Mr MacDonald’s talk was entitled “How not to turn a Crisis into a Drama”. He spoke of various disasters, including Aberfan in Wales (known for the deaths of 116 children and 28 adults when a colliery spoil tip collapsed into homes and a school), the fuel crisis, foot and mouth, floods and more, and about the voluntary agencies who always help, plus the military.

He has written a book, What will you do, if it happens to you?, of which 600 copies have been printed, with the help of a grant from Devon County Councillor Margaret Squires. The books will be delivered to every home in Lapford and Nymet Rowland.

The Over 60’s group outing planned for Seaton has been cancelled, but the next one is on Wednesday, July 11 and will be to Mevagissy.
