KIRTONIANS with prized gardens are being sought to take part in Crediton Town Council’s 2016 Floral Crediton Competition.

There are a number of categories and applications for entries are now open.

The categories are: Small formal garden (with or without veg), Large formal garden (with or without veg), Small managed natural garden (with emphasis on wildlife), Large managed natural garden (with emphasis on wildlife), Family Garden (to include play/recreation) and Patio or hanging baskets and other outdoor planted containers.

The Mayor, highly-regarded for his gardening expertise, will judge the favourite from the categories with the assistance of Crediton gardening expert and judge, Bert Jewell.

There are always many delightful gardens in the town and the Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch, said he was “amazed” that so many good gardens were not entered in the competition last year.

Crediton Town Clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley, said: “I would like to encourage as many people as possible to take part.

“It is not just for serious gardeners but is fun as well.

“The judges will be available to share their knowledge with those they visit during the judging.

“Not only does the competition help keep the town looking great but it shows how beautiful the town is to visitors and those who live here.”

Entry forms are available from Crediton Town Council offices at Market Street, Crediton, Crediton Garden Centre, Tuckers Country Stores and Crediton Library.

No entrant can receive more than one award.

Completed entry forms can be returned to those same locations and last date for entries is July 1.

Judging will take place on July 14.

Winners receive a trophy, photograph and/or a certificate and prizes are awarded during a special presentation evening.

The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
