ONE of the stallholders at Morchard Bishop Produce Market was Julian Rice who showed furniture he makes at his workshop at Broadgate Farm, Morchard Bishop.

Some of his garden furniture, that would suit equally well indoors, is based on the Adirondack style, using a heavier gauge timber, but still retaining the attractive slatted design.

"Children and older people like the rocking chair," he said, "it comes with a footstool for those whose feet might not be able to reach the floor!"

As well as the chairs, he was showing some of his turnery work , a coffee table and other chairs. He will also repair timber sash windows.

Julian has a volunteer apprentice in 21 years old Edward Ruddles. He had been working with wood for five years but was made redundant and could not finish his college course at Taunton. Julian was impressed with his work and so Edward now helps him.

Usually Julian works to commission. He can be contacted on 07549 807 628.
