THE judges at Lapford Horticultural Society’s Autumn Show said they were pleased with the standard of exhibits.

There were 207 entries with the Cup for the Best in Show exhibit going to Edwin Pike with his collection of vegetables. Edwin also won first prize for his flower arrangement in the Mens Floral Art Section.

Cup for the Best Flowers went to Peter Heal with his magnificent Red Ball Dahlias. Ann Stentiford won the Floral Art Trophy and Rex Dunham won the cups for the Best Vegetables and the Best Fruit.

The Homecraft Award was won by Pat West, the cup for the winning photograph went to Richard Hassett, and Trisha Mumford won the trophy in the craft Section.

Eileen Ridd took the award for most points in the show. In the Potato growing competition, from one tuber in a bucket, the winner was Hilary Hassett with 6lb 15 oz, second was Eileen Ridd and third Paul Ridd.

Floral Art (men only) - Edwin Pike and James Mumford; Ladies - Sue Briant-Evans and Ann Stentiford. Fruit - Rex Dunham, Trisha Mumford, Edwin Pike, Sue Briant Evans and James Mumford. Vegetables - Edwin Pike, Rex Dunham, Eileen Ridd, Richard Hassett, Noel Parry, Rowan Peto, Amanda Bailey, Trisha Mumford, Sue Briant-Evans, Joyce Mann and Eileen Ridd. Flowers and Pot Plants - Noel Parry, Sue Briant-Evans, Eileen Ridd, Richard Hassett, Trisha Mumford, Peter Heal, Wendy Townshend, Pat West and Trisha Mumford who had the most impressive weed.

Sue Briant-Evans won both classes for both hens and bantam eggs.

Chairman Sue Briant-Evans presented the trophies, with Noel Parry who also ran the draw. Jeanne Whittaker organised the entries and Paul and Eileen Ridd served the refreshments.
