I know I chose a single life, it seemed the best for me
But after months of ‘prison life’ I long to be set free
The science took us into this, it seemed the best to know
But now when asked to change a bit, more experts seem to grow.
For many, life within the home it hasn’t changed that much
As time together has been spent you’ve had that daily touch
With laughter, joy and party games there’s been a lot of fun
Lots being paid for doing ‘nowt’ except enjoy the sun.
But spare a thought for those of us who hear and get quite sore
The things you all enjoy right now your barbecues and more
We’ve had no chance to socialise, to mingle, play or sing
Just days of isolation, bar a walk, is now ‘the thing’.
No friends, no kids, no grandchildren apart from Skype or Zoom
I’m sure you all can realise we want them in our room
But science says it’s still not time for us to go and mix
And so for maybe weeks or more we’ll sit and watch Netflix
I’m sure all want the time to come when houses we can leave
See toddler walking, talking and to hug all those that grieve
I hoped this might be end of June if all the steps allowed
And to this end we all must try to do what science vowed
We do not know the risk of all but schools the smallest are
No greater than a fast food chain, the beach or in a car
And yes there will be some who will decide that they know best
But please please please don’t hold back all the rest
You know if schools are proven safe we’ll all be glad to see
The next advice is put in place, step closer to be free
So now I say to everyone please all remember me
And all the other millions just waiting to be free
To share a pint, to have a hug, to talk and talk and talk
To fill the diary once again not just the daily walk
To feel as though there’s hope once more a day one can enjoy
To see and hear and touch and play the grandkids favourite toy.
