THE people of Crediton, Sandford and the area are invited to “have-their-say” about plans for around 300 homes, including affordable housing, a new home for Crediton Rugby Club, community open space and possibly a new primary school. Really?
What “have their say” really means is that it has already been decided by gullible councillors whose wages we pay and this so called consultation is really a publicity stunt put on on Thursday, February 25, when most people were at work and could not attend.
We’ve seen these farces before re the Exeter Road fiasco where we were told that the link road would relieve the traffic flow in Exeter Road, when in fact the Exeter Road residents to whom I have spoken will tell you otherwise. No Brownie points awarded for this.
The term “ affordable homes” is a vague statement because we are in a low wage area and
therefore the people who want homes cannot afford them.
More likely it will be left to “market forces” i.e. second homes for the rich or pensioner hordes coming down here to retire putting massive strain on the health services.
It states that possibly a new primary school would be built which should read: “a new primary school will be built” because the schools are already full to capacity.
If the school is not built then gridlock will occur as the parents will have to fight their way through the town to get to Landscore or Hayward’s causing even more pollution.
Threshers is already overloaded. The Crediton road system has hardly changed since Victorian times.
The same goes for doctors surgeries and we know that the health services are under strain already without adding to the problem.
The intelligent way to do things is to improve the infrastructure first i.e. improve the road system, which a bypass would have alleviated, not just mindlessly adding on extras.
Build the new school with the estate.
We don’t want gypsy encampments here. We all remember Dale farm.
Once they have a foothold here others will follow with all their litter.
