THERE are numerous reports of icy roads in the Crediton area this morning, Sunday, January 7, with several road traffic accidents reported as a result.

The A377 from Copplestone to Crediton was reported to be very icy with patches of black ice.

Water run-off from fields is believed to be washing away salt spread on highways.

At the junction to Shobrooke from the Crediton to Tiverton road there are reports that it is still icy and the advice is to drive carefully.

Between Whiddon Down and North Tawton (A3124) there are reports of four separate road accidents.  It is believed that the road is closed.

A car has also collided with the bridge at Sampford Courtenay.

The A377 still has one-way traffic lights near Crediton where a landslip a few days ago resulted in one carriageway being partially closed.

There are reports of a lot of water still running onto the highway from fields in the area.

Exeter Road between Chapel Hill, Whiddon Down and Shelley Road, South Zeal is currently closed (10.30am) in both directions due to a road accident.

It was first reported at 10.10am.

Motorists are advised to be careful due to the conditions of the icy roads in many areas.

Widespread icy conditions are predicted tonight by the Met Office and snow is predicted for the South West on Monday and possibly Tuesday.
