THE Friends of Crediton Library (FoCL) present the second event in a series on "The Senses" - on Monday, October 14, beginning at 7pm at the Library.
University of Exeter neuroscientist Gavin Buckingham will explain, with a variety of illustrations, how the acquired experience of our senses can lead us to make errors interpreting what is in front of us.
His presentation is called "Experience, Illusion and Human Perception".
The series of four presentations on the second Monday of the month (until December) covered the sense of taste and smell last month with a "tasting" event of local produce.
November 11’s event, “From Dinosaurs to Dukes” is by sculptor Andrew Sinclair, whose life-sized figures are constructed from a variety of tactile materials.
And December 9’s presentation, explaining the changing sounds of music over five centuries, is by musician and scholar Philip Lancaster and titled "From Plainsong to Post-Modernism".
“These events aim to be stimulating, informative, educational and fun. All are welcome to come along,” says FoCL chair Paul Vincent.
FoCL’s aims are to help broaden the scope of the Library and engage a wider range of users; and to raise funds for special projects and activities.
The evening events are priced at £4 each – with refreshments available by donation.
