"ABSOLUTELY lovely” was the verdict at the end of Lapford’s celebrations after the Coronation on Saturday.  People had gathered on the green at Lower Town Place beside the Victory Hall, all outside because the weather was so good.

The afternoon was organised by Lapford Celebration Committee, formed last year for the Queen’s Jubilee.  Saying how lovely the afternoon was, the committee secretary, Sue Briant-Evans, added: “It seemed most of the children in the village were here and lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

There was a quiz about the King devised by Peter Heal, committee chairman, won by Sue.

The competition for the best crown was won by Beccy Fletcher and the competition for the best front door was won by Tudor Cottage, each being given a Coronation mug.

These were for sale at £5.50, paid for with some of last year’s Jubilee money.  There will be other chances to buy those left over.

Sue thanked everyone who who contributed to the afternoon.  “I am so proud everyone came and enjoyed it,” she said.

Entertainment was by magician Emazdad from Plymouth.  The barbecue was kept busy all afternoon.
