OUR report on Crediton Town Council’s Town Strategy Committee meeting this month did not give quite the right impression when we said that Alexandra Road could be the "more major access road."

This was in reference to the outline planning application by Place Land LLP of Exeter to build up to 65 homes plus other work on land off Higher Road.

Neal Jillings of Place Land talked with the committee, explaining how the road changes could work. He said Alexandra Road and Higher Road would function the same as before.

"Our whole approach to Devon County Council Highways has been about betterment at that junction. Our highways advice was in terms of visibility to make it safer," he told the “Courier”.

"The roads will function as they are, there is no proposal to increase useage of Alexandra Road," he added.

In its planning application Place Land show how Higher Road would be diverted around the new homes, rejoining itself at the junction with Alexandra Road which would be widened and be the primary alignment.

This would make the present Higher Road "a quiet lane", becoming restricted for vehicles except for access.

The whole of the planning application and its documents can be seen on the Mid Devon District Council website.
