CREDITON Hamlets Parish Council has opposed Devon County Council's planning application for the composting of green waste for on-farm use at Smallbrook Farm, Newton St Cyres.

Parish councillors, at their October meeting, discussed the application and also heard from local residents who attended the meeting, to express a number of concerns.

In total, 17 members of the public from Hookway attended the meeting, which heard that the compost it was proposed would be composted was scheduled to come from Punchbowl Tip and from Kennford.

The suggested access to the farm was given as being along the A377, turning into the lane that runs up to Downes Crediton Golf Club and Hookway.

The meeting heard that the road is a single lane track with inadequate parking.

Concern was expressed over the volume and weight of the material to be composted.

The proposal would see heavy plant travelling along this route and returning empty to base.
