CHAWLEIGH based charity The Amber Foundation is holding an open day it has dubbed “Amber Fest” on Friday, September 14 from 11am to 3pm at Ashley Court (EX18 7EX).

The High Sheriff of Devon will be in attendance from 11am to 12.30pm. The event has been supported by Mid Devon district Council, the local parish councils of Chawleigh and Lapford and musicians from MIDI (Music in Devon Initiative).

Amber works with 17-30 year-olds grappling with homelessness and unemployment. It provides a safe temporary home and all the support and opportunities needed to move on to independent and productive lives.

Many of the young people who turn to Amber have mental health issues and/or a history of both addiction and offending.

The vast majority are there because they have nowhere else to go and no-one else to turn to.

This is a perfect opportunity for people in the local area to find out more about the work Amber does supporting young people facing tough times to turn their lives around and move on to bright futures; a job, training or education and most importantly a safe secure home of their own.

The event will feature a marketplace of providers of learning, employment and personal development opportunities.

There will be tours of the building, a chance to talk to staff and residents about the programme and opportunities to get involved plus musical performances by residents and refreshments.
