ON Saturday, September 2, the team from the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust Cardiology department will be walking from North Devon Hospital in Barnstaple to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to raise funds for use at the under-construction new day case unit at the Exeter hospital.

The “Our Hearts will go on!” campaign already stands at more than £700 and the Cardiology team hope people will support the appeal for resources for the new Cardiology Day Case Unit to help make the patient experience as stress free and comfortable as possible.

Sarah Dale, Cardiology Clinical Matron, explained: “Here at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital we are really excited that building work has started on our new Cardiology Day Case Unit.

“The patients that we currently treat come from across Mid, East and North Devon for a wide range of cardiac treatments and investigations such as angiography, pacemakers and ablations.

“We recognise that this can be a stressful time for our patients and our aim is to help make this process as comfortable as possible for them.

“In order to do this, we are currently asking for feedback from our patients to find out what would enhance the patient experience.

“To help buy resources the cardiology team is aiming to raise £5,000 at a number of charity events.

“The first is a charity walk from North Devon District Hospital to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Saturday, September 2.

“This walk is more than 42 miles long and we will have a model heart that we will be passing on along the walk.

“We will be taking in the beautiful countryside and passing through Barnstaple, Chittlehampton, Chittlehamholt, Chulmleigh, Chawleigh, Morchard Bishop, New Buildings, Crediton, Newton St Cyres, Cowley and finally Exeter!”

The walkers aim to start at 5am and be at Chulmleigh College at 11.20am, Chawleigh at 12.20pm, Morchard Bishop at 1.50pm, New Buildings at 2.50pm, Creedy Park at 3.50pm, Shobrooke Park at 4.50pm, Sweetham at 5.50pm finishing at the RD and E Hospital at 8pm.
