A CREDITON woman who has helped thousands of people with donations of food, her time and in prizes for events run by charities, organisations and groups in the community has stepped down from the role.

Hazel Evely has been the Community Champion at Crediton’s Morrisons store since 2013 and is now handing the role over to her colleague Sharon Arnold.

Hazel explained: “It has been a privilege to be able to help so many people while I was Community Champion.

“In the role I have helped a number of organisations in Crediton and the surrounding areas.

“This has included food donations, prizes, raffle prizes, donations to different events, food items to Age Concern Crediton, Crediton Foodbank, The Amber Foundation at Chawleigh and Inclusive Exeter.

“I am pleased to hand over the reins to Sharon and will still be working at the Crediton store.”

During lockdown Hazel helped supply food for thousands of meals to needy individuals and groups across the area.

Sharon said: “I am looking forward to continuing the good work carried out by Hazel and getting out there and meeting people.

“I promise to help where I can.”
