VOLUNTEERS swung into action for a “Ground’s Day” at Hayward’s Primary School in Crediton during a recent Sunday.
The volunteers managed to put a fence up around the growing area, painted a large fence around the Year One play area and repaired the fence at Tanglewood.
They also painted the pirate ship, trimmed lots of large branches from overgrown bushes/trees, tidied up, removed waste, weeded and planted lot of plants and areas
Andy Smith, head teacher, was full of praise and said: “What an amazing day!
“There was a lovely community feel around school and I wanted to say a massive ‘thank you’ to everybody who attended.
“It was brilliant to see families, staff, governors and friends joining in on the day.
“I am amazed with how much we managed to achieve.
“We are incredibly lucky to have such a hardworking, supportive and enthusiastic families at our school.
“Due to popular demand we will be running another one in the Autumn Term—it would be amazing if we could get a similar number of people at the next one.
“In addition to everyone who helped on the day, I would also like to thank organisations who supported the event financially: Bernaville Nurseries - for contributing the trees and plants for the event; Eakers DIY - for contributing the paint that we used for the Year One fence area; Andrew Vaccari - for lending us the “Post-thumper-in-thing” (for want of a better name); PTA - for providing cakes and refreshments; Mr Cavender (Oliver’s Bakery) - for providing cakes for the mid-morning break and Mole Avon Country Stores, Crediton - for contributing the wheelbarrow.”
