NORTH Tawton-Based business Gregory Distribution Ltd (GDL), has been recognised with a thanks award by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS).

John Gregory was awarded a Gold Certificate from DSFRS in recognition of the support the company has given, which has included employing on-call firefighters for more than 45 years.

Gregory Distribution Ltd is one of only two companies in the South West to provide this continuous support.

The transport firm’s relationship with the Fire and Rescue Service dates back to 1973 when the late John King combined his role in the workshop with being an on-call firefighter.

John’s sons Paul (North Tawton workshop) and Ian (North Tawton transport) carry on the tradition and they are joined by Craig Patrick (North Tawton finance) and Kevin Murrin (South West Water contract).

All combine working for GDL with their firefighter role at North Tawton and Okehampton fire stations.

In accepting the certificate of recognition, John Gregory said: “For many years we have been delighted to support those organisations who care for us all.”

The presentation was made by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Alex Hanson who was accompanied by Group Commander Jon Worsley, Station Manager Richard Bulled, Watch Manager (North Tawton) Mark Quick, Watch Manager (Special Ops) Colin Sharp and Station Manager, Rob Cude.

Also invited on the day were representatives from Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) and the North Devon Search and Rescue Team (NDSR) who have been supported by GDL for many years.

DAA was represented by Fundraising Logistics Officer Brian Chapman and NDSR by David Stoneman, Tim Garrett, Robbie Taylor and Gail Stoneman.
