IN September Bridget Pike of Crediton will be setting off on a 10-day trek along the Great Wall of China, raising funds for Hospiscare, in memory of her brother, Philip Vinnicombe.

Bridget, of A and S Paving at Barnstaple Cross, held a Table Top sale at Yeoford Community Hall when very well-stocked stalls were along every wall of the hall.

Bridget explained: “This year marks 10 years without our dear brother Philip Vinnicombe, he was only 50-years-old when he was diagnosed and died from pancreatic cancer.

“This year I have decided to raise some money for a good cause.

“As a family affected by cancer it is difficult to know which ‘good cause’ to support but we have decided to support Hospiscare because of the help and aftercare we received at such a devastating time.

“Hospiscare is our local hospice providing care for terminally ill patients and their families in Exeter, Mid and East Devon. They are reliant on 80 per cent of funding coming from the local community through donations, fundraising, their shops, lottery and gifts in Wills."

Anyone who would like any further information or can help in any way with fundraising please email at: [email protected] or ring Bridget or Mandy on 01363 775017 ext 2.

All donations to Hospiscare will be in support of Bridget’s Great Wall of China Trek. Bridget also has a JustGiving page, bridget-pike-china.

She added that she is about half-way to her target, the dance at the Waie Inn earlier this year raising slightly more than £400.

Bridget thanks everyone for their donations and support so far, especially Sabrena and Mandy, her fundraising team.

"It will be a 10-hour flight with a change at Amsterdam," said Bridget who is not too keen on flying. "I’ve been told to do a lot of training with steps and so am using the Brays Close steps at Crediton as part of the training," she added.
