AROUND 40 members of the Lapford Over 60s Club enjoyed their Christmas Lunch and Party at the Waie Inn, Zeal Monachorum.
A number of members were driven there by Wesley Powell who then joined them for the meal. There were crackers and a free draw with nearly 30 prizes.
There was a raffle for a large hamper of Christmas goodies and this was won by Bill Graham who donated it to the Crediton Foodbank.
Entertainment was given by Rose Chanin, who told a number of stories, many in true Devonshire dialect, and also went through a number of old TV adverts going back to the late 1960s for members to guess which ones they were. These included Fairy liquid, Coca Cola and Kit Kat.
She then read out the Rules in the Kitchen for a Family, with great laughs and a farmer’s story of the Widecombe Alphabet, followed by a Pam Ayres poem of A Battery Hen.
She concluded with Spoonerisms, telling the story of Rindysella, (Cinderella).
Everyone agreed it was all great fun, and Rose was warmly thanked by Ron Kercher, who also expressed his thanks to the Waie Inn staff for their excellent service.
