TRADERS from the Crediton area reported a great day at the best-yet Mid Devon Show held on Saturday, July 27.
It was a hot and sunny day which meant thousands of people went along to enjoy the one-day show, causing some queues at entrances to purchase tickets or catch park-and-ride coaches.
Once visitors had made their way into the show ground, they were not disappointed.
A fantastic main ring programme was topped by The Devil’s Horseman, who performed many stunts on horseback, wowing the crowds who were many people deep along the ringside.
There was scurry driving, Young Farmers’ competitions, heavy horses, the grand parade, majorette demonstrations, vintage tractor parade, Pony Club games and the parade of hounds.
Away from the main ring the show, the 26th, had one of the biggest livestock competitions in the country, with cattle, sheep, horses and pygmy goats all competing for the top prizes. The Countryside Area was packed full of exhibits and demonstrations, including ferret racing, birds of prey and pony displays.
There was an amusing sheep show, agricultural demonstrations, a busy food marquee, funfair, music festival, church marquee, flower marquee, Women’s Institute competitions and hundreds of trade stands. Artisan traders had their own marquee and there was something for all the family.
The show secretary, Colin Nation, apologised to those who had to queue to get in but said he believed more than 20,000 people attended, 5,000 more than expected, but he hoped that everyone had a great time when they made it in.
It was a great day out and a real celebration of Mid Devon.
