TWO awards were presented and a cheque received at a weekly meeting of 1st North Tawton Cubs at North Tawton Rugby Club.

George Davey, Mid Devon Scouts Assistant District Commissioner, presented Cobie King with the Chief Scout’s Silver Award, the highest award Cubs can achieve.

Cobie is now a Scout at North Tawton and had to complete a number of challenges for the award. He needed to earn six Activity Badges as well as all seven of the Challenge Awards. It meant sticking at something and doing your very best.

Cobie received a certificate and a new leather woggle for his neckerchief (scarf).

Simon Butler received the Chief Scout’s award for 10 years service as a Leader.

This term the Cubs are learning about skills with the first part being DIY and finding out how to wire an electric plug, how to change the wheel of a car, cooking skills and First Aid.

They are also making bird boxes for their camp site at Taw Bottom near Okehampton from kits made by inmates at Dartmoor Prison.

The final presentation that evening was by Vickie Mills, Community Champion at Waitrose, Okehampton, of £280, raised by the Waitrose Community Matters Green Token Scheme for Mid Devon Scouts.
