SPRING flower shows have been badly affected by the weather. Cheriton Bishop’s was cancelled but neighbouring Tedburn St Mary’s went ahead on Saturday, March 24.
The wind and rain the night before the show was so bad the organisers were surprised and delighted by the number of people who turned up with entries.
Although the number of adult entries was down, probably because of the weather, with most of the classes being for daffodils, narcissi, and other flowers, overall the number of entries was up.
Tedburn School pupils had put in a lot of daffodils grown in pots for the class of “something you have grown yourself” with the other classes for children - biscuits or cakes and for a decorated egg, being well supported.
The standard of entries was good despite the weather. The organisers praised all those who had made the effort.
Best in show was a vase of spring flowers exhibited by Marie Finlinson who also took home the shield for the most outstanding exhibit and the cup for gaining most points in the show.
In the children’s classes, Tahlia Smaldon took the prize for the best decorated Easter egg while Alexander Palmer won the award for growing the best daffodil.
