ON Saturday, June 28, the Mid Devon Good Afternoon Choir presented its summer concert at Crediton Congregational Church.

Their guests for the concert were the Crediton Strummers.

There is an ever-increasing number of Good Afternoon Choirs. Looking on its website, the latest number is 34.

To quote from the website: “We enjoy making music, performing at concerts and raising money for many local organisations and charities.

“There are no auditions and previous singing experience is not important – if you enjoy singing in the car or at home, why not come along and find out what singing in an afternoon choir is like?

“The music varies from unison folk songs, through to popular and well-loved pieces in harmony.

“Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to wait to join any of our choirs at the start of a term, simply come along to any rehearsal.

“A warm welcome awaits.”

The Mid Devon Good Afternoon Choir meets in Crediton Congregational Church on Monday afternoons between 1pm and 3pm.

Our concert last Saturday included a wide selection of music, some sung in parts, and some in unison.

We are fortunate enough to have the talented Jon Rawles as our musical director. Not only is he a wonderful musician, he is amazingly patient and encouraging for members of the choir.

The choir is also indebted to our accompanist Peter Gilks.

The Crediton Strummers also had a wide range of music, some well-known, some less well-known.

The audience were made to work, demonstrating their skills at yodelling and singing along heartily with a chorus in the Strummers finale.

The concert raised money for the charity it is currently supporting, which is the Mid Devon Mobility Charity. This charity does a lot of good work in our local area.
