MICHAEL and Pamela Maddick, (86 and 81 respectively), who live in Waresfoot Drive, Crediton, celebrate their Golden Wedding on June 3.

They were married at St Mary’s Church, Tamerton Foliot, Plymouth, near where they both lived.

They had met less than two years before, being introduced by a friend of Michael’s at a party.

Michael was a carpenter and jointer.

Pamela worked for Clarke’s Shoes in Crownhill, until their two sons, Michael and Paul were born.

They lived in the Plymouth area, but moved to Crediton 12 years ago, to be near their sons and grandchildren, who are aged four, six, nine, 13 and 16.

Michael keeps busy doing odd jobs as needed in their home, while Pamela tends the garden, and is also an excellent cook, making delicious cakes.

The couple are planning for a celebration meal with family and with her sister, who was a bridesmaid at the wedding, who will be joining them.

The couple agree that being best friends has been a good recipe for a long and happy marriage.
