THE 4th Crediton Brownies took to having weekly Zoom meetings during lockdown to still keep in touch with their girls and give them some Guiding interaction.

Packs of resources were sent to each girl to enable them to complete activities.

For Chloe Collins this was her last term as a Brownie as she is due to move to Guides.

She set herself the challenge of completing her six Theme Awards.

The programme changed in July 2018, although we didn’t start using the new programme in Crediton until January 2019.

Chloe had completed two of these theme awards (Take Action and Be Well) during Brownie meetings gaining her the Bronze Award and had parts of some of the other themes as well.

She had completed Express Myself and Know Myself by August 16, to gain her Silver Award and the final two Skills for my Future and Have Adventures by August 28.

Each theme consists of an interest badge, 240 minutes Unit meeting activities and five Skillsbuilder challenges (although due to lockdown the minutes needed and skillsbuilder challenges had been reduced by Girlguiding to 180 minutes and four Skillsbuilders).

There were lots of emails between Chloe’s mum and the Leaders with the work she needed to do and the evidence when she had completed activities.  She involved the whole family, her brother, sister, mum and dad as substitute Brownies.

Chloe gained Aviation, Baking, Dancing, Grow your Own, Inventing, Local History, Mindfulness, Painting and Speaking Out Interest badges.

When she had completed her six Theme Awards she had some further challenges to complete to gain her Gold Award.

Chloe had to learn about the next section she was moving up to (Guides) and make something as a keepsake for the unit.

A zoom meeting was set up between some local Guides and Chloe to enable her to ask lots of questions and learn about Guides.

Chloe then made a Unit picture hanging for us which she presented to us on our first socially distanced meeting back on October 8.

Chloe was presented with all her badges, certificates and awards during this meeting.

The Leaders are all very proud of Chloe for taking on this challenge during difficult times, she is the first of 4th Crediton Brownies to achieve this award.

Chloe was given a gift of a Guide badge book and bag to get her started on her next Guiding adventure.
