AWARDS and a barbecue took up most of the annual meeting of 1st Bow Scout Group in July, held on their field at Burston Meadow, Bow on a glorious evening.

Scouting in Bow began in 1917, one of the earliest Groups to be formed right at the beginning. But there was a break of a few years and this group is only seven years old.

Group Scout Leader, Shaun Metcalf, said the Group had never had a chairperson, a position he would like to see filled.

Across the three sections - Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, 58 boys and girls are currently members. When he appealed for parent representatives for each section, two people came forward.

Shaun added that anyone interested in helping should contact him (0777 971 3993) for more information.

Karen Reynolds was re-elected as secretary, Kate Monk as treasurer. Shaun said that having a dedicated fundraising group had made a huge difference. Also that for the first time Bow will be represented by two Scouts at the World Jamboree next year.

He presented a gift to Young Leader Reece Burnison who is leaving Bow to join the Police Cadets.

Reece has been with the Group ever since it began, first as a Cub, then Scout and Young Leader.

Scout Leader Lucy Bailey presented the cup for the Scout of the Year award to Jack Nicks.

Cub Leader, Ellen Harmer presented Emily Gutans with the Most Improved Cub award. The Cub receiving the Cub of the Year award was not present.

Beaver Leader is Stacy Davis.

George Davey, Mid Devon Scouts District Commissioner, presented the Chief Scout Awards to:

Beavers Bronze - Alfie Hart, Ross-John Wykes and Otis Cavender.

Cubs Silver - Ethan Edworthy, Amelia Jackson, Isabel Heath and Willow Briggs.

Scouts Gold - Molly Smith, Josh Burnison and Luke Harmer.
