ARTISTS from across Devon will open their studio doors and inviting people to look behind the scenes during Devon Open Studios from September 12 to 20.

More than 350 artists will be taking part in this year, with a range of free exhibitions, workshops and opportunities to see artists at work.

Visitors can discover the creativity that thrives across Devon, and local people will have the chance to celebrate the range of talent in the area.

The art and craft on display will include drawing, painting, sculpture, tapestry, ceramics, jewellery and glasswork. Artists range from emerging talent to experienced professionals, all keen to share their inspiration and creativity with visitors.

A number of artists will be showing their work in Crediton at The White Room Creative Space.

Others locally include:

• Netti Habel takes photographs by the light of the moon. Using analogue processes in remote landscapes, she works with long exposures, and aligns her photography with the lunar cycle.

She creates nocturnal landscapes, skyscapes and portraits in forests, on beaches, and over the moor. Her photographs explore ecological loss and the relationships between people and nature.

Netti returned to photography during the breakdown of her family. While her children slept, she photographed the ancient woodland that had been their home for a decade. She documented her experience of ‘solastalgia’ – the emotional distress caused by negative environmental changes affecting one’s home environment.

• Carrie Clarke - Cycling and walking the steep hills and wooded valleys of the mid Devon countryside provide Carrie with a strong sense of connection to place. Her paintings seek to capture something of the nature of this beautiful part of the world.

• Caroline Cattermull is a contemporary painter who draws inspiration from travel, nature, light and movement. She mixes distinctive colour palettes useing acrylics and oils to produce works that resonate with energy. Caroline loves the creative process – when all distractions fade, and her sole focus is on the interplay of colour, canvas and mark making.

• Nancy Murgatroyd Ceramic Artist & Printmaker - Nancy turns her ideas into handmade sgraffito ceramics and linocut prints, which she sees as studies of the energy, ideas, feelings and dreams permeating our lives and surroundings. Her whimsical inventions use shapes and patterns stretching back through time to create contemporary, approachable work.

Venue M4 Hilltop House, Hollacombe, EX17 5BW

• Sally Mareike Ceramics C - Sally loves the sense of peace and grounding she achieves which making pottery. She has a passion for stoneware slab building and coiling, and takes her inspiration from natural textures, forms, colours, and rustic imperfections. Her tactile ceramics are functional and decorative, often with a range of beautiful textures and colours.
