ON Saturday, June 27, Crediton choral director and teacher Tina Guthrie will be leading a choral workshop day in Chagford focussing on Poulenc’s Gloria.

Tina explained: “Francis Poulenc was a French composer known for his sense of humour and his love of life.

“This is reflected in the Gloria, composed in 1959, and often described as playful and exuberant.

“It is a great piece for a workshop as it is varied, colourful and sometimes challenging but immensely enjoyable to sing. Come along and give it a go!

“Alongside the Gloria we will be exploring aspects of singing technique such as breathing and tone production through vocal exercises and simple songs.

“The day will end with an informal performance at about 3.40pm, for which we will be joined by the wonderful soprano soloist Josie Walledge.

“Friends and family are invited to come to this and enjoy (free of charge) the fruits of our labours!”

The workshop is being organised and hosted by the Chagford Singers, for whom Tina is musical director.

However, Tina adds that any singers with some choral experience will be warmly welcomed.

She is very keen that as many as possible should attend and share what promises to be an enjoyable and rewarding day of singing and learning.

It will take place at the Jubilee Hall, Chagford (TQ13 8DP), beginning with Registration (and tea/coffee) at 9.30am and ending at 4.30pm (following the short performance at 3.40pm). Tea, coffee and cake will be provided, but participants are asked to take along their own lunch.

Tickets cost £18, including score hire (Salabert Edition), and refreshments. They can be obtained in advance from www.ticketsource.co.uk/chagfordsingers or bought on the door on the day.
