For more than 50 years George Davey of Crediton has been involved in the upper levels of Scouting. For his services to young people in Crediton and throughout the Scout movement, 73 years old George has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. For many years George has been a volunteer driver for the local community transport and in 2012 he was named Crediton Citizen of the Year. He is Group Scout Leader at Crediton.

George is a frequent visitor to the Courier office and we are all very proud of the recognition George has received.

"It is fantastic that George has been, rightly recognised in this way. Those who support and help develop young people in the dedicated way in which George has truly deserve full recognition. This award is richly deserved," said local MP, Mel Stride.
