THE President of Colebrooke Women’s Institute, Valerie Pennington, welcomed members to our October Meeting which was held at Colebrooke Parish Hall.
Our speaker for the evening was Chloe Webber, assisted by Andrew, who spoke to us about gardening through the seasons.
She gave us lots of ideas about what to plant to provide colour and interest in our gardens throughout the year.
She also talked about how we can prepare the soil and tubs in order to get the best from the plants we plant in our gardens whether they are vegetables, flowers, shrubs or trees.
We should review what we plant as beds, borders and our gardens develop over the years and should not be afraid to move plants if they get overcrowded or are not suited to whether we planted them originally.
She illustrated her talk with a slide presentation and also brought examples of different coloured foliage for us to see.
Members also attended the Red Earth Group Meeting, which was hosted by Sampford Courtenay, Exbourne and Jacobstowe Women’s Institute, on October 20.
The speaker was Nick Clyburn who spoke to us about his career as an Air Traffic Controller in the RAF and also after leaving the RAF.
The competition was for a floral arrangement and a craft, both depicting flying.
Each was judged separately with points added together for the overall winner.
The overall winner was North Tawton but Colebrooke came second in the craft part of the competition with a cross stitch picture of a hot air balloon.
For our November Meeting, Kevin Bowyer from the South West Ambulance Service will be giving us some defibrillator training.
For further information, or if you would be interested in coming to any of our meetings, please contact Andrea Armstrong on 01363 84198 or just come on the night.
