THE first of the two winter full peal attempts on the bells of the Holy Cross Church in Crediton will take place on Saturday, October 29.
It is to be rung by the College Youths, a band which last year finally deposed Birmingham in the National 12-bell Competition after a run of five consecutive wins.
The band will be ringing 5,088 changes of Bristol Surprise Maximus, the favourite method of the late Crediton Tower Captain, Howard Egglestone.
The peal will be conducted by David Hilling, who was Master of the Society in 1994.
David is the father of Matthew Hilling, Tower Captain of Exeter Cathedral who will be ringing in the peal attempt.
Beginning at 11am, the peal should last for three-and-a-half hours.
