A WEEK earlier than normal on account of the bank holiday, Dr Catherine Ross, Met Office and National Meteorological Archive Manager, will be presenting “from sorcery to super computers” for Bow and District Historical Society on Monday, May 19.

Weather forecasting began in the 4th century BC.

In the 1600’s it was early optics, lore and the changes in nature which predicted weather patterns, but this was sometimes seen as questioning the supremacy of the monarchy or of God.

In the early 1800’s science formed the foundations of forecasting and, of course, super computers are extensively used today.

The meeting is at Bow Village Hall, 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

Open to everyone, free to members or just £4 on the night for visitors.
