IT has been one year since the group Friends of Crediton Library (FOCL) was formed, and we are holding our first AGM on Monday, February 29, at 7pm in the library.

We hope that all existing Friends will attend, but would also warmly welcome new Friends who would like to help us to support our library in order to ensure that it can continue to give the Crediton community  the many and varied  services it currently provides.

Our first year has been a busy one – we have held several fundraising events, supported the Summer Reading Challenge, and hosted a book launch for local author Jenny Balfour-Paul which attracted 100 guests.

The logistics of preparing the space for this event provided the motivation for our current fundraising project – to buy a system of castors for the library shelving to enable us to move them much more easily.

This will mean that in future we can host larger events more often.

We have also been involved in the consultation with Devon County Council regarding the proposed relocation of the Children’s Centre to the library, our position being that we strongly  oppose any loss of existing space which would affect the current provision for library users.

We do hope you will join us and look forward to meeting new Friends on February 29.
