YOUNG people will be able to feed body and mind as part of two days of creative activities in Exeter during the Christmas holidays.
Crediton-based creative wellbeing organisation Significant Seams is running art and craft workshops combined with healthy meals for 11-to-16 year-olds.
The scheme is part of Devon County Council’s Holiday Activity and Food programme, and the workshops are free for young people who are entitled to benefit-related free school meals.
Those who take part will be supplied with a healthy hot lunch each day as well as a food hamper for their family to provide more healthy hot meals in the holidays.
The participants will visit the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery to seek inspiration for creative activities including yarn spinning, clay moulding and charcoal drawing.
They will also take part in a drama workshop to learn about devising physical comedy, before attending a performance of Le Navet Bete and Exeter Northcott Theatre’s production “A Christmas Carol”.
After the workshops, an activity pack will encourage participants to continue experimenting, devising and exploring creative activities. Young people taking part will have the opportunity for further support to gain a Bronze level Arts Award.
Significant Seams Director Catherine West said: “The Holiday Activity and Food programme supports young people to eat more healthily and engage in enriching activities during the school holidays. This is a fantastic opportunity to feed young people’s creativity as well as providing them with a hot, healthy lunch.
“We believe that creativity is important for wellbeing, so putting our activities together with healthy eating is a perfect combination. “We’ll be providing a boost at a time when families need support and when many other organisations who traditionally provide that are also taking a break.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming young people to explore some of Exeter’s wonderful cultural organisations with us.
” Significant Seams’ Holiday Activity and Food programme workshops are based at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in the centre of Exeter, and take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 21 and 22.
There are free places for young people entitled to free school meals, and pay-what-you-can places for young people with a SEND diagnosis.
There are also a number of places for other participants, priced at £200 for the two-day programme. Booking and further information is available online: https://bit.ly/HAFChristmas .
