THREE Crediton and Copplestone Professional Unification of Martial Arts (PUMA) Taekwon-Do students have made it through the first part of the selection process to represent Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Ryan Powlesland and Daniel Copp train at the Lords Meadow Leisure Centre in Crediton and are joined by Tegan Flay, who travels from Newton Abbot for the additional training.

Their tutor, Dave Powlesland, IV degree black belt, explained that the trio submitted their cv's to the national PUMA Taekwon-Do body and were judged against many criteria. He explained that this included their achievements and past success at national and international level.

He said: "It is a great honour for me to be a tutor with such committed individuals and to see the rewards they are achieving from their hard work and the training they put in and from the additional work I give them as their coach.

"For a minor sport to have two people from the same location and one who comes for additional training is an honour for not only myself and the club but the town as well.

"They are achieving life-changing opportunities for themselves in our club and it is absolutely fantastic."

Recently the trio competed in the PUMA European Championships held in Cork, Ireland.

They competed in patterns (individual), sparring (individual) and team sparring, returning with an impressive eight medals between them.

Crediton PUMA Taekwon-Do classes are held at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings and at Copplestone on Wednesday evenings.

All ages and abilities are catered for and welcomed at the classes and if you would like to join or find out further details, contact Dave on 07802 855852.
