“TAKE it easy” said Dominic as we left the Builds and Brews car event at Lords Meadow on Sunday, September 5, and that was just what the day was about, a relaxing day chatting about and looking at (or listening to) cars.

Boy racers they certainly were not, in fact, boy racers are somewhat looked down upon by these very genuine guys.

It was organised by car enthusiasts Dominic Palfreman, Craig Yate and Paul Maddick, held at Creedy Vale, Down End at the far end of Lords Meadow Industrial Estate where Craig runs The Ally Cat and Paul has the Camper Coffee Co.

Craig explained that the idea for an open day there began to brew some four years ago but events got in the way of it happening.

He said it was a chance for people to share their passion and love for cars.

Dominic added that the car scene gets a lot of bad press, but it is not true for all.

This day was about people with a common interest. He said it had been too much of a solitary thing for too long due to Covid, and it was nice to be able to get together again to share.

Certainly it was good to just listen to the chatter, the burble of a hefty engine now and then, a relaxed way of admiring cars, people exchanging news and views, catching up after months of nothing.

Paul and staff were kept busy serving coffees and food, or talking about his rare 1964 VW split screen container van, a former Australian military vehicle.

The Ally Cat, think of alloy wheels, at the far end of Creedy Vale, carry out sandblasting, powder coating, split rim refinishing and polishing.

Paul said they had a huge variety of vehicles come and go throughout the day, including a Lamborghini, numerous Porches, Mustangs, TVRs, and VWs and the everyday sort of cars people love as well as a number of motorbikes.

It was the sort of day that people felt comfortable taking along their projects, work in progress.  “There was something for everyone,” he said.

The small team is to discuss arranging another day that might be held early next year.
