FIREFIGHTERS from across Mid, West and North Devon as well as others from Exeter are currently ripping thatch off the roof of a cottage between Coldridge and Zeal Monachorum.

Eight fire appliances and support vehicles have attended local people on the scene report.

The extent of the fire is not known but the first fire appliances arrived at the scene at about 8.15pm today, Monday, April 6.

The fire is located at Newton Cottages, Zeal Monachorum, near Crediton.

About 40 years ago a similar fire occurred at the very same property.

Firefighters from across the county attended that fire which destroyed much of the upstairs of the property.

No statement has as yet been issued by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
