DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a telephone call from a member of the public reporting a fire in a barn at Iddlecott, Dolton near Winkleigh at 8.37pm last night, Monday, November 9.

Two fire appliances from Torrington and Hatherleigh and a Water Carrier from Barnstaple were immediately mobilised by Fire Control.

On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed that a tractor was well alight in a barn in close proximity of a thatched property and requested the attendance of a third pump, which attended from Chulmleigh.

Crews got to work to tackle the fire using breathing apparatus, main jets and compressed air foam.

The fire destroyed a telehandler and caused approximately 40 per cent fire damage to the rest of the barn.

The cause of the fire was deemed to have been accidental.
