CREDITON branch of the Townswomen’s Guild held its final full meeting on Tuesday, December 4.

The branch is closing, shortly after it celebrated its 50th birthday last May, due to no-one wanting to take up officer roles.

The branch secretary, Enid Keast, explained: “Sadly we do not have any young members to take over the officer roles to keep the branch going.

“All the officers are in their 80s and I am 95, having taken up my role when I was 84.

“It is a shame but at the last AGM the vote was carried that we will close. We will hold a winding up meeting in January but today is our last full meeting.”

TG members were entertained by “Ukulele Crazy”, comprising Val Payne and Brian Poole, singing and playing in the George Formby-style.

A number of visitors from other TG groups and the TG Federation also attended the meeting.

A bring-and-share tea was enjoyed by all who attended, including slices of a Christmas cake made by Tricia Walker.

Other outgoing officers are Pat Uren, chairman, and Jean Cooper, treasurer.
