A BIG square cake with decorations to represent as many market stalls as possible was cut at this month's Farmers' Market to mark its 10th birthday at Crediton.

One of the oldest of the new breed of farmers' markets, Crediton's was set up with backing from Mid Devon District Council three months after Cullompton's, Devon's first independent market. It is now independent.

Among the stallholders still at Crediton who were at that first market were Chris Brown of Gratton and Oldridge preserves, Andrew Harvey of Redhills Fruit Juices, Phil and Helen Thomas of Linscombe Farm and Alison Dibble with vegetables and plants.
