At the recent 2019 AGM of the League of Friends of Chiddenbrook Surgery, the League said farewell to two long-standing committee members: Ethel Ransom and Jennifer Bateman. Both stood down after many years of service.

Richard Ward, practice manager at the surgery, explained: “Ethel came to the aid of the League 14 years ago.

“She took on the role of Treasurer, when it looked likely that the League would fold.

“After 14 years taking care of the League funds Ethel will be taking a well-earned rest!”

He added: “As well as looking after the books she was also at the heart of much of the League’s fundraising.

“Coach trips were Ethel’s speciality, many of which are still talked about (and for the right reasons!). Thank you Ethel.”

The other long-serving member who has stepped down is Jennifer Bateman who served the League committee as minute secretary for many years.

Richard said that Jennifer kept track of the League’s free ranging debates with great skill.

He explained: “Her departure is a double loss in that she also contributed to the Chiddenbrook patient participation group (PPG).

“The PPG was set up 12 years ago to provide a focus group for patients’ views and feedback. Jenny is moving to North Devon now she has finished the AGM minutes! Thank you and good luck in your new home.”
