THE Rotary Club of Crediton celebrated 70 years of Fellowship and Service to Crediton with a Farewell Christmas Party at the Devonshire Dumpling on Thursday, December 12.

It was a full attendance by the members of the club, together with guests.

Sadly the event was the final formal meeting of the Rotary Club of Crediton following a decision to wind down the club’s activities resulting from the increasing age of its members some of whom are in their 80s with many others in their mid to late 70s.

The event closed in the late hours with a “final final toast to the Rotary Club of Crediton” followed by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” led by Paul Evans.

The club was chartered in 1949 and over the years several hundreds of thousands of pounds have been donated to many local and international causes, including Rotary’s own Foundation charity, on top of the considerable service commitments to Crediton.

Some of the members will be continuing in Rotary by switching to the younger Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface, who will take on some of the club’s more major projects so that the benefits are not lost to the Town.
