ONE of the first duties Abdoulaye Diakite, from Central West Africa, had to perform when he arrived in Crediton to help the town celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight was to switch on the Crediton Fairtrade Partnership website.

Mr Diakite gave a presentation to the Trinity Youth Club at the Boniface Centre, Crediton, about his work as a cotton producer and how Fairtrade had helped him and other farmers and the community in which he lives. His presentation was translated into English for the audience.

Following the talk and slide show, Mr Diakite pressed the button to switch on the website: http://www.fairtradecrediton.org.uk">www.fairtradecrediton.org.uk .

The website, created by Allan Butler, has titles, Fairtrade in Crediton, What is Fairtrade?, News and Events, Previous Events, Fairtrade Directory, Contact Us and Links.

Mr Diakite was thanked for attending by the Rev Preb Nigel Guthrie and organiser of his visit, Laura Conyngham, local Fairtrade co-ordinator, of Crediton.

Mr Butler was also thanked for his work on creating the website. The site features a number of photographs taken by staff at the Crediton Country Courier.
