ENTHUSIASM for working with young people, for having fun, for getting out and about are among the criteria for someone, ideally two people, being sought in the Crediton area.
Crediton Explorer Scouts, called the Last Resort back in 1972 after one of its more gigantic and imaginative activities, has been in abeyance for some time.
There are now at least 16 boys and girls living in Crediton and immediate area who have to leave Scouts because they are approaching the age of 15 and who would like to continue, but cannot, because there are no Leaders.
George Davey, Mid Devon assistant district commissioner for Scouts, said: "Ideally, we need an enthusiastic person, aged about 25 years or more, a husband and wife team would be great.
"We need someone who likes a challenge, likes things such as Dartmoor, rock climbing, all outdoor activities. The sky's the limit for the activities they do. It is about having fun."
Training and a uniform are provided, there is plenty of support. "We have good Scout Leaders," said George. "It is such a shame there are young people who do not want to leave Scouting but have to because of their age and because there are no Leaders."
Anyone who would like to know more should contact George on 01363 773057. Explorers are aged 15-18 years.
Venture Scouting was formed in 1967, changing into Explorer Scouts in the 1990s when the Scout Network for 18-25 year olds was also created.
